Horizon Gramudhyog Vikas Samiti (HGVS) is a overall integrated Development Organization which committed to work for the development and upliftment of the vulnerable groups to eradicate poverty and also dedicated to improve the environmental hazards. We as an NGO is working to promote and provide qualitative education to neglected children and down trodden communities which are socially and economically deprived.

Furthermore we emphasize these children¡¯s latest talents and explore, so that they not only acquire academic learning, but also vocational proficiency, personal character and societal values. We work for their retention until they become self ¨Creliant and responsible citizens.

HGVS emphasis on the formal education for drop-out and non-enroll children. As per statistical data there are large numbers of drop out and hardly 50% boys and 30% girls qualify 10+2 standard though the facilities are available in every village of India. We had surveyed in the several villages where we came to know the facts and factual reasons of drop outs. And our studies says the following drastic reasons.

HGVS leads the community towards good health through its health program. We organize health awareness camps in which Doctor diagnose the disease and refer the patients in Government Hospitals where confessional rates are charged. We also organize Eye screening camps in the villages where cataract patients are benefited by referring the patients for IOL operation on very minimum charges. The patient who has weak eye sight is given spectacles on confessional rates.

Our studies say the following drastic reasons.

• Illiteracy of the parents.
• Lack of awareness in communities.
• Orthodox outlook towards women education.
• Poor condition of the family.
• Lack of school infrastructures and hospital buildings .
• Long distance of school and Public Health Centre from villages.
• Non-availability of the required medicines and other equipments.

Our strategies

• Targets children in the 6-12 years age group who have never attended school or have dropped out
• Aims at using informal methods of education, gradually moving towards a structured set-up and then placing the children in a formal school
• Classes generally start in the community and move to the local municipal school building if space is available
• Comprises of around 15-20 children with a teacher from the local community who has a minimum Std X education.

The subject matter of the training course is as following:

• To reduce the dropouts.
• Good behavior with the children as well as teach them how to behave with their parents, elders, teachers etc.
• Using play way methods to create interest in the studies.
• Arrange parents-teachers meeting to know the overall progress of the child Maintain good Coordination with Government School Teachers, Local administration, VLEC members.

Criteria of selection of the villages

HGVS had been working at the grass root level from last 3 years.HGVS is having rich experience of working with the poor communities in the rural areas. We involve hand to hand cooperation of Village leaders, School Teachers and Village level Education Committee Members and came to know about the situation and draw backs of the area. We go through the PRA & PLA exercises at large level participating almost all the people of the villages.

Government Survey:

The Samiti will contract with the Government agencies for the survey of children who are out of school. Other than this we will survey on our own to search the real problems in the society. The schemes of Government agencies will help us to initiate the Alternate Innovative Education centres where the number of children were in high percentage of drop out.

Improving Poor condition of the families:

The condition of the villages is worse in which main obstacle is in the way of education. Parents are mostly dependent on agriculture but landless people are laborers in the fields. The poor people are unable to pay monthly school fees in time. Even they can not purchase books for their children. Apart from this, most families are from Muslim community who do not believe in education. They avoid their children to read books of Haryana Education Board and ask them to read their own religious books. HGVS intervene in the nature of starting Alternative Innovative Education in these villages. HGVS also support the people through Income Generating Programs

Large Family Size:

Maximum numbers of people in the villages do not believe in family planning this is the main cause of large family size of the family which is the main cause of their backwardness. HGVS support them in the form of awareness campaigning and educational camps.

Gender Reasons:

The villagers have acceptance of son in their mind. They do not give respect to female child and feel that women stays at home to work only. This is also the reason that girl child do not go to school and becomes drop outs. HGVS is working to change the mindset regular through meetings and awareness camps

Selection of volunteers

HGVS maintains fair and transparent relation with the key person of the villages such as School Teachers, Mahilla Mandal, Youth club and old volunteers which helps in the selection of good volunteers, We strictly follows our norms for the recruitment of eligible volunteer selection. We call the interview of the volunteers keeping in mind the qualification & experience of the candidate. The suitable candidates were selected for the post of volunteers. The education standard is kept as minimum 10+2 education.

Orientation to the staff:

HGVS is enriched with educated, experienced and dedicated professional staff. We organize regular workshops for our staff to maintain their proficiency and capability to deal with the people. Communication skills of each staff are trained from time to time. We also provide short trainings to volunteers. HGVS invites well trained resource person for the training sessions.
